Prayers

Places to focus on in Prayer:
Iraq – where ‘Human Rights Watch’ worries that a Police State is being created.

People to focus on in Prayer:
Atilla Kavdir whose triple-limb transplant (two arms and one leg) is not ‘taking’ as well as had been expected.

We hold before God all who have asked for our prayers and all those whose names are on the “Prayer Tree” in Algitha Road Church.

We pray for:
Nigel & Val, Paul, Lois, John & Margery, Reg, Sheila, Philippa, Andrea, Bill & Ida, Kath, and all those I’ve missed (!); and the doctors and nurses who care for them. And for Cecil and the Supernumerary Ministers with all the work they now have to do.

We Remember loved ones who have died and pray for those who grieve, particularly the families and friends of Tom Garrill and of David Butcher, the good friend of Dee Hart.

The Lectionary readings for this week are –
Deuteronomy 18:15-20. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. Mark 1:21-28.

Jesus teaches in Capernaum.
Jesus and his disciples came to the town of Capernaum, and on the next Sabbath Jesus went to the synagogue and began to teach. The people who heard him were amazed at the way he taught, for he wasn’t like the teachers of the Law; instead, he taught with authority.

A Prayer by Norman Goodacre.
Almighty God, you have proclaimed your eternal truth by the voice of prophets and evangelists: direct and bless, we ask you, those who in this our generation speak where many listen and write what many read: that they may do their part in making the heart of the people wise, its mind sound and its will righteous, to the honour of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
